Beyond the realms of fabric, textures, silhouettes and models:
YouCanFreeUs has a very exciting partnership with the fashion industry. We use fashion as a voice to not only tell the story of modern slavery, but to tell the story of redemption and new beginnings.
It all started with Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week in 2012 where, at the invitation of Fashion Design Council of India, YouCanFreeUs was presented an opportunity produce a runway fashion show – Beauty from Ashes – with leading fashion designers and models of India. With the brilliant photography and direction of Bollywood’s photographer, Subi Samuel, and participation of leading fashion designers like Rohit Gandhi, Rahul Khanna, Lecoanet Hemant, Ravi Bajaj, Ashima Leena, Ritu Beri, Rajesh Pratap Singh, JJ Valaya, Shantanu and Nikhil, Suneet Varma, Ashish Soni, Manish Arora and Tarun Tahiliani we had a moving fashion show that highlighted the evil of trafficking but showed the hope YouCanFreeUs was bringing.
With leading voices from the movie industry like Vivek Oberoi and tennis star Leander Paes it was a star-studded night that was covered in more than 200 media outlets in India and around the world. This also led to a 2013 calendar project with leading fashion designers.
Since then, we have had multiple fashion events in Canada and London, UK bringing attention to the evil of modern slavery.
Several of our beneficiaries have also entered the workforce by working in the fashion industry.
We believe fashion can be a powerful voice to combat modern slavery. If you are interested in partnering with us for an event around fashion please contact us. We would love to hear from you.
