These are the shocking numbers of children around the world in child labor
according to the most recent data from ILO and UNICEF.
This reaches out to people literally all over the world, so let me start by saying our thoughts are with people in several countries still dealing with the challenges of Covid-19.
What does freedom mean to you? To our girls at YouCanFreeUs, freedom means the opportunity to enjoy the ocean, a day in the park, and to enjoy and build on friendships as they heal together.
COVID-19 has debilitated our rescue efforts considerably. However, since the beginning of this year, these young lives have found freedom through the efforts of our incredible staff team.
This is a momentous season for us at YouCanFreeUs. November 11, 2020, marks ten years in our fight against modern slavery around the world. Ten years ago were given an opportunity to ring the bells of freedom; we can proudly say we have done so to the best of our ability through our rescues, rehabilitation, training, and awareness worldwide.
Our beneficiaries have shown tremendous resilience during these difficult times. With a little encouragement, these women began to express their experiences of “how the world paused” during COVID-19, using the ancient and rich Warli tribal art form, practiced in Maharashtra, India, since the 10th century AD.
We are excited to share the creative expressions of these brave women captured on a limited edition t-shirt. This t-shirt will remind you of the resilience we all exhibited during these difficult times.
As Covid-19 hit India and the country went into lockdown, our brave beneficiaries were thinking of other victims still trapped in the red-light districts. They quickly began making masks for girls in the red-light area. They have also been preparing for their certification tests and making jewelry during this COVID lockdown. Each of them is rooting for each other and doing very well during this difficult time.
